Education

Upland is part of the Eastbrook school district. Upland Elementary is in the heart of the town while Eastbrook Junior and Senior High Schools are located seven miles to the north. Also available are Kiddie Kampus, a local pre-school and Live Y-ers, a before and after YMCA school program. Taylor University, a four-year Christian liberal arts institution moved to Upland in 1892 and celebrated its 150th birthday in 1996. Having grown to nearly 1,850 students, it is one of the premier Christian institutions in the country.

Organizations

Upland’s many civic and community services organizations comprise a well-rounded outreach to the local community. These organizations include: Our Town Upland, Inc., Lions Club, Masons, Order of the Eastern Star, Boy and Girl Scouts, Upland Parks Board, Jefferson Township Baseball and Softball Leagues, Garden Club, Historical Society, Helping Hand, the RedBarn and the GrayBarn at the Lightrider site and the Upland Chamber of Commerce.

Recreation

Upland boasts several parks and recreational facilities including its parks system comprised of the Upland Park, the Depot Park, and downtown beautification projects. Facilities available include numerous baseball and softball diamonds, basketball courts, playgrounds, a lake, picnic area, a dirt track for events such as motorcycle races, meeting facilities and open fields for various community activities. Two golf courses are located near Upland, including Club Run, an eighteen hole natural course, and Walnut Creek. Camping is available at two local campgrounds (Marbrook Campground and Sports Lake Campground).

Churches

Upland’s spiritual heritage is evidenced in the variety of denominations represented, including Upland Community Church, Upland Christian Center, Upland Friends Church, Upland United Methodist Church and Jefferson Christian Church. Both Catholic and Jewish services along with many other denominations are in nearby communities. Children and youth have access to a variety of ways for important development from Sunday school to Vacation Bible School, evening activities and youth groups in various churches in the community.

Arts and Entertainment

Taylor University and the local school systems provide opportunities for enjoyment of the arts though music, drama, and the visual arts. Nationally-known performers and speakers and a variety of classical as well as contemporary performers visit Taylor on a regular basis. Taylor athletics provides opportunities to enjoy a variety of collegiate competition. Other cultural options are readily available at nearby Marion and Muncie.
